Printing a Questionnaire Grid

A questionnaire grid is a plan of the areas on a response sheet where Speedquest could overprint text and the locations where Speedquest will instruct an optical mark reader to scan for marks which have been filled in.

The parameters which define these areas are held initially in an RSD file and copied to each questionnaire generated.

A grid should be printed directly onto the appropriate response sheet or onto a piece of plain paper of matching size.

To print a questionnaire grid
  • Display the side of the questionnaire the grid is required for in the preview pane
  • On the toolbar left click , or alternatively from the File menu, select Print Grid.
  • In the Overprint Setup window, left click OK.

The example has been significantly reduced in size. The two areas highlighted have been expanded below.

The ID line on a questionnaire grid has all the potential response areas filled in.

Each individual numeric represents a response area.

Each occurrence of the word Text identifies an area which can be overprinted with text. The numeric immediately following Text will match up to the number displayed in the lefthandmost column, headed No., of the question editing interface (see Viewing Questionnaire Details).

When the word Text and its associated numeric are followed by the letter R this indicates that responses are associated with this overprint area. The response numbers are then indicated.

In the example above there are further blank areas (one above each response area). These are text areas associated with the response area. On some response sheets these may be to the left or right or below the response area.

So a question "What colour is your hair ?" could appear in Text 14 and above response 1 could be "blonde" and above response 2 could be "ginger" etc.

A grid can be printed onto a plain piece of paper or directly onto a response sheet. Which is more advantageous is dependant on the response sheet. As a printed grid is intended as a working document it is probably best to try both.
