A new strategy has been published to give patients and the public more information, more choice and a stronger voice in managing their health and healthcare.

Darzi sets a new foundation for a health service that empowers staff and gives patients choice. At the heart of the Lord Darzi report is the desire to:

1) Provide patients and public with more information and choice
2) Develop an NHS which works in partnership and has quality of care at its heart.

Health Secretary Alan Johnson's Announcement - Improve patient care July 2007
Health Secretary Alan Johnson announced his desire for a scheme which tracks the patient experience across every Hospital in the country.

"...we want to improve patient care...we will establish a vision for the next decade of the health service that is based less on central direction and more on patient control, choice and local accountability, and which ensures that services are responsive to patients and local communities..."
