This window is split into two panes. The left-hand pane shows a hierarchical tree structure depicting the relationship between sheets, exams, papers and sub-exams, and the right-hand pane shows the descriptions of each.

The top level of the hierarchy is the definition of the type of sheet in use. This shows the description of the sheet, and on the right-hand side of the screen, the name of the
decode file associated with the sheet, and the maximum number of responses on the sheet, or on each sheet for a multiple paper exam. These details are set in the sheet definition file and cannot be modified.

A single sheet type can be used for several different exams, so the next level of the tree defines the exams which use that sheet. There may be many exams at this level that use the same sheet. The
exam style here is used to describe a particular type of exam, for example 'Part 1 Membership Examination', there may be several instances or sittings of an exam, but they will all be of the same style. The information shown on the right-hand side of the screen is the name of the examination (e.g. 'Part 1 Membership'), a short description for printing as the column header on reports (e.g. 'Part 1'), the first response number used on the sheet and the number of responses, the weighted score and the grade scheme definition. See Editing Exam Styles for information on these settings, and how to change them.

If the sheet definition file describes a sheet as having more than one paper, the next level below the exam style will be the description of the individual papers. The information shown on the right-hand side of the screen is the same as for the exam, but for that paper only. Paper details may be modified, see
Editing Exam Styles.

The next level, and further levels below that, are used to define sub-tests or part exams. These are used to sub-divide the exam into groups of questions for individual scoring and reporting. Again the long and short descriptions, the first response and the number of responses in the sub-test, the weighted score and the grade scheme definition are shown. These can also be edited, see
Editing Exam Styles.

If the
style of examination you want to use is not shown on the list, you need to define a new exam style, otherwise select the required exam style by clicking on it with the mouse, and then click on the OK button.
